A reckless driver fled a crash scene, leaving behind a shoe, prompting a police search with dogs and a helicopter to find him
Police got a tip-off about his drinking habits. An officer spotted him, but he zoomed off, overtaking cars like a maniac. Eventually, he crashed into a wall and a mud bank.
His passenger stayed put, but Warne bolted, losing a trainer in the process. The police brought in a sniffer dog and a helicopter to track him down. But he slipped away and wasn’t caught until August.
In court, it came out that Warne had a history of trouble. He assaulted his brother twice last year. The judge sentenced him to 21 months in prison for dangerous driving and other charges.
His lawyer argued that the delay in charging him was unfair. Warne claimed he felt sorry for his actions and had been good while in jail. He even had a job lined up in Loughborough.
But the judge said his reckless driving was too serious for a suspended sentence. Warne also got a five-year restraining order against his brother.
