London: A recent study has raised alarms about sleeping with your curtains open. It turns out that letting in all that light at night might not be the best idea for your health.

Many folks prefer to sleep with curtains drawn. It’s easier to snooze when it’s dark, right? But some people love waking up to natural light. If you’re one of them, you might want to think twice.

Researchers found that keeping your curtains open could increase your stroke risk by a whopping 43%. That’s pretty serious! Light pollution can mess with your sleep quality, which isn’t good for your body.

Experts say it’s crucial to maintain a natural sleep-wake cycle. They studied over 28,000 people and found a clear connection between open curtains and health issues. Dr. Jain-Bing Wang, a public health expert, highlighted the risks of outdoor artificial light at night.

He suggests that especially city dwellers should limit their exposure to this light. The study tracked people with a history of cerebrovascular disease for six years. Out of 28,300 participants, 9,000 had strokes during that time.

They also looked at how much light each person was exposed to at night. Bright lights can disrupt your body’s natural rhythms, leading to higher triglyceride levels and blood pressure. That’s a recipe for vascular problems.

Remember, if you notice signs of a stroke, think ‘FAST’: Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulties, and Time to call for help. Stay safe and consider those blackout curtains!
