A Huddersfield mum has pulled her daughter from college after a shocking beauty class requirement forced students to perform intimate waxing on each other
Huddersfield: A mum is really upset about her daughter’s college. The beauty class had a requirement that students perform intimate waxing on each other. If they refused, they risked being kicked out of the course.
Safiyah, the mum, shared her feelings in a TikTok video. She said, “I don’t know if I’m being extra sensitive or just don’t know.” She decided to take her daughter out of college.
Her daughter had just started a beauty course. One of the requirements was to bring in clients for treatments. But soon, they were told they had to wax each other.
When her daughter came home upset, she said, “Mum, I don’t want to do an intimate waxing.” She was okay with bringing in a model but didn’t want to be treated herself.
As a beautician, Safiyah felt there was no need for students to do the treatment on themselves. She believed they could learn just by watching.
Her daughter spoke to her tutor about her discomfort. The tutor insisted it was a requirement to pass the course. Safiyah then called the tutor, who said if her daughter didn’t want to wax, she should find another course.
Safiyah was frustrated. There was no warning that students would have to perform treatments on themselves. The tutor claimed that experiencing the treatment would help them understand it better.
Safiyah argued, “I’m nearly 40 and I’ve never had a waxing treatment.” She felt it was unfair to force her daughter into something uncomfortable.
Even though the tutor said other girls were okay with it, Safiyah believed her daughter shouldn’t have to do it just because others were.
She was disappointed that this requirement wasn’t mentioned earlier. Students only found out on the first day after buying their equipment.
Safiyah explained, “My daughter doesn’t have to do the treatment, but she can’t tell anyone else.” She felt it was wrong for 16-year-olds to be put in such a position.
When her daughter returned, the tutor told her to study in the library while others waxed. “She’s not even allowed to observe now,” Safiyah said. So, she took her daughter out of that college.
Now, her daughter is in a different college, and things are going well. Safiyah feels she made the right choice but worries about other students who might be pressured into uncomfortable situations.
