Huddersfield: A young guy named Stephen Mallalieu just opened his first shop at 17. He’s got a clear message for online shoppers: support local businesses!

Stephen, who finished school last year, opened a card and gift shop called Imperial Cards. It’s located in the Imperial Arcade right in the town center. The grand opening is set for Saturday, January 25, at 11 am, and his godmother will be there to celebrate.

Before this, Stephen worked at Card Corner, but when it closed, he decided to start his own thing. His friend Paula, who runs a shop called Huddersfudge, and his mum, Lesley, have been helping him out.

He told Yorkshire Live that he wants to make Huddersfield better. He believes people should come out and support local shops instead of just shopping online. He prefers seeing products in person to know exactly what he’s buying.

Stephen thinks he might be the youngest shop owner in Huddersfield. Last year, another young entrepreneur opened a pet boutique nearby.

He and Paula have been busy painting and decorating the shop. They’ve been working late into the night to get everything ready. Imperial Cards will offer gifts, cards, and personalized T-shirts.

Lesley, his mum, is super proud of him. She remembers when he was a kid, selling toys and DVDs outside their house.

The shop will be open six days a week, with varying hours. Stephen is excited to welcome everyone and support the local community.
