Tensions rise in Labour as the government backs Trump after Khan’s controversial comments on fascism
London: A Labour civil war is brewing. Sir Keir Starmer is praising the UK’s ties with the US. This comes just as Donald Trump is about to be inaugurated.
Starmer said the friendship with Trump would continue. He emphasized the importance of their historic alliance. Together, they can tackle global challenges and find growth opportunities.
But things got heated when Sadiq Khan called Trump a fascist. He warned about the rise of the hard-right in the West. Khan said these are troubling times for everyone.
In response, Darren Jones from the Treasury disagreed with Khan. He stated that the government does not share that view. It’s clear there’s a divide within Labour.
Trump and Khan have a rocky history. Back in 2019, Trump called Khan a “stone cold loser.” He criticized Khan’s performance as Mayor of London.
Trump even compared Khan to New York’s Mayor, saying they both did a terrible job. He added that Khan should focus on crime in London instead of him.
Khan’s team responded, saying childish insults aren’t fitting for a US president. It’s a messy situation, and it looks like tensions will continue.
