A man fell through ice while saving his dog in North Yorkshire, highlighting the dangers of frozen water during winter walks
This happened on a chilly Wednesday in January. The dog walker, just 20 years old, jumped in to help his furry friend. But then he fell through the ice too!
Emergency services quickly arrived, including an air ambulance. They managed to pull both the man and his dog from the freezing water. Thankfully, the dog was cold but okay. The man went to the hospital for a check-up.
A spokesperson from North Yorkshire Police shared some important advice. They said, “If your dog falls through the ice, don’t go after them.” It’s a serious risk.
Often, it’s the person who tries to rescue the dog who gets into trouble. The ice can be thinner than it looks, and stepping onto it can be dangerous.
If someone falls in, they can disappear quickly and drown. The cold water can be overwhelming, making it hard to swim or help yourself.
So, if your dog is in trouble, stay calm. Don’t go onto the ice. Call your dog back to safety if you can. If they can’t get out, call 999 for help right away.
It’s a tough situation, but knowing what to do can save lives. Stay safe out there!
