London: The Met Office is sounding the alarm for folks over 55. They’re urging everyone in that age group to stick to a minimum heating rule. Why? Because snow is on the way!

Starting Thursday, the weather is set to take a wild turn. Heavy rain will sweep across much of the UK. And it doesn’t stop there; snow is expected in the northern regions.

Chris Almond, the Deputy Chief Meteorologist, mentioned that a deep low-pressure system is brewing. This could lead to some pretty disruptive weather from Friday into Saturday.

Winds will pick up on Thursday night, especially in Northern Ireland and western Scotland. Expect gusty winds and heavy rain to wrap up the week on a rough note.

With temperatures dropping, the Met Office is stressing the importance of keeping homes warm. They recommend setting your heating to at least 18°C during winter.

As we age, our bodies struggle more to stay warm. After 55, we lose about 1% of muscle mass each year, which helps keep us cozy.

So, it’s crucial to bundle up when heading outside. At home, try to have at least one hot meal daily and sip on warm drinks regularly.

If heating your home is a challenge, don’t hesitate to reach out to Age UK for assistance. They have resources to help manage winter heating costs.
