Rachel Reeves is backing airport expansions to help boost the struggling UK economy
London: Rachel Reeves is stepping up to support expansions at Heathrow and Gatwick airports. This move aims to help the UK economy, which has been struggling lately.
Plans include adding a third runway at Heathrow and a second at Gatwick. Plus, there’s talk about nearly doubling Luton’s capacity. Sounds like a big deal, right?
Bloomberg says Reeves might announce these plans soon. When asked about new runways, the Government kept things vague. They mentioned wanting to boost the economy and support aviation.
Heathrow’s CEO, Thomas Woldbye, is eager for clarity from the Government. He wants to know if a third runway is part of the national transport strategy.
Gatwick Airport is also looking to make changes. Their Northern Runway is mostly a taxiway now. They want to reposition it to allow for dual runway operations.
Construction could kick off in 2025, with completion by the end of the decade. This expansion could create around 14,000 jobs and add £1 billion to the local economy each year.
