A Scarborough man has been sentenced for a shocking shovel attack, leaving his victim with serious injuries and a community in fear.
This all happened on August 4 last year. After the attack, Heap ran away but was caught later. The police found the shovel hidden in bushes nearby. They discovered his DNA on it, along with the victim’s.
When they arrested him, he had 30 wraps of heroin and a burner phone. In court, he admitted to wounding with intent and drug possession. He got six years in a Young Offender Institution.
Detective Constable Sam Rivers said Heap was a well-known figure in the area. Many witnesses were scared to come forward. But thanks to the victim’s bravery, justice was served.
Now, the community can feel safer knowing Heap is off the streets. The police are serious about tackling violent crime and will keep working hard to bring offenders to justice.
