A parent of one of the victims demands justice for the Southport attack, urging the judge to impose a harsh sentence on the killer Axel Rudakubana
The sentencing is happening today at Liverpool Crown Court. Rudakubana, just shy of his 18th birthday, can’t receive a whole life sentence. Instead, he’ll likely get a minimum of 30 years.
One parent, whose child was hurt in the attack, is pushing for change. They believe the law should be different since Rudakubana was so close to turning 18. They said, “Life should mean life.”
The parent is frustrated. They feel Rudakubana should face harsher punishment for his horrific actions. They also criticized various organizations for failing to intervene earlier.
Rudakubana had been flagged for violent behavior before. The parent believes this tragedy could have been avoided if someone had acted.
Their child is struggling mentally after the attack. They noted Rudakubana showed no remorse in court, even sitting down when he pleaded guilty.
The parent supports a public inquiry into the incident. They also back a crackdown on online knife sales, as Rudakubana bought his weapon on Amazon.
