Pensioners over 80 can claim up to £5,280 extra from the DWP, boosting their weekly income significantly. Here’s what you need to know.
London: If you’re over 80 in the UK, listen up! You might be eligible for an extra £5,280 from the Department for Work and Pensions. This is a great boost to your pension.
To qualify, you need to be 80 or older. If you get less than £101.55 a week from your basic State Pension, you can apply for this extra help. It’s a nice way to top up your income.
So, how does it work? If you’re getting the full basic pension, that’s £169.50 a week. But if you’re not, and your pension is low, this extra cash can really help.
For example, if you’re getting just £43 a week, you could get an extra £58.55. That brings you up to the £101.55 mark. Over a year, that adds up to a whopping £5,280!
Just remember, you need to have lived in the UK for at least 10 years out of the last 20. And you can’t claim if you turned 66 after April 6, 2016.
Also, this extra pension is taxable. So, if you’re getting other benefits, it might affect those. It’s good to check before you apply.
Ready to apply? You can get a claim form from your local Jobcentre Plus or call the Pension Service at 0800 731 7898. You can even apply up to three months before your 80th birthday!
