A serious collision has closed a key motorway in Kent, causing major delays for drivers. Police are on the scene and advise avoiding the area.
Kent: A major motorway connecting Kent to London is shut down. This is due to a serious collision that happened earlier today.
The M20 is closed eastbound from Junction 8 at Hollingbourne to Junction 10 at Maidstone. National Highways has confirmed it’s a police-led incident.
Police are already on the scene and say the closure will last for several hours. They’re working hard to manage the situation.
According to Kent Police, the serious collision occurred near Junction 9 of the M20 at Ashford. They’ve warned that the coastbound lanes will remain closed for a while.
Motorists are advised to steer clear of this 4.5-mile stretch of the motorway. Instead, they should take a diversion using a major A road.
All three lanes are currently blocked, and delays of about 30 minutes have been reported. National Highways is keeping an eye on the situation.
They expect the incident to clear up between 18:45 and 19:00 tonight. So, if you’re out and about, plan accordingly.
For those needing to divert, here’s the advice: Exit the M20 at Junction 8. Take the third exit at the roundabout, then the first exit at the next roundabout onto the A20.
Stay on the A20 until you reach Fougeres Way, which will lead you north towards Junction 9 of the M20. At Drovers roundabout, take the second exit onto the A292 towards Ashford.
Keep on the A292 for about three miles, passing through Ashford, until you hit the Latcon interchange with the M20/A2070. Then, take the third exit to join the A2070 towards Dover.
Finally, at the next roundabout, take the first exit towards Sellindge. Continue to the M20 Junction 10A roundabout and take the fourth exit to rejoin the M20 eastbound.
