London: It’s been a real mess for some travellers trying to get into the UK. Many are being turned away because of issues with the new digital immigration system.

People who have the right to live in Britain are finding themselves stuck. They can’t even board their flights because of problems with electronic visas.

One traveller shared, “I’m locked out of my UKVI account and can’t add my passport.” This means they can’t prove their immigration status, which is a big deal.

Another American, who’s lived in the UK for over 50 years, is furious. She said she’d love to take on the Home Office. “I’m angry at their lack of thought and sheer ineptitude,” she expressed.

The new system was supposed to start this month, but the rollout was paused for three months. Officials suggested using expired IDs in the meantime.

Still, some folks trying to use those expired documents have been denied boarding by airlines. It’s frustrating for everyone involved.

Sara Alsherif from the Open Rights Group said the delay hasn’t fixed the ongoing issues. She urged the government to allow people to prove their immigration status more easily.

A spokesperson from the Home Office said they’re aware of the concerns and are working with airlines to make the transition smoother. They believe eVisas will improve security and efficiency in the immigration system.
