With Storm Eowyn approaching, UK households are advised to charge devices and gather essentials to stay safe during the severe weather expected this weekend
London: The Met Office is warning everyone in the UK to get ready for some wild weather this Friday and Saturday. Storm Eowyn is on its way, and it’s bringing snow and strong winds.
They’ve issued all sorts of warnings, from red to yellow. Northern Ireland is facing the worst of it with a red warning. Meanwhile, Scotland has a yellow warning for snow, and the rest of England and Wales are under amber or yellow warnings for wind.
Winds could hit up to 90 mph, which is pretty intense. The Met Office says this could lead to power cuts and even pose a danger to life. So, it’s best to be prepared.
They’ve shared some tips on how to stay safe. First off, check your travel plans. If you’re taking the bus or train, make sure to look at the schedules. If you’re driving, check the road conditions and pack some essentials in your car.
Things like warm clothes, food, water, a blanket, a torch, and a phone charger are a must. It’s all about being ready for anything, especially if the power goes out.
If you live near the coast, be extra careful. Big waves can be dangerous, even from the shore. If you’re walking near cliffs, keep your dogs on a lead and know your route. In case of an emergency, don’t hesitate to call 999 for the Coastguard.
And if you do lose power, remember to call 105 instead of your energy supplier or 999. It’s a dedicated number for power cuts.
As for the weather, Storm Eowyn will sweep across the northwest on Friday, moving northeast by night. Expect strong winds, with gusts reaching 60-70 mph inland and even higher along the coasts.
There might be a brief lull in the wind as the storm passes, but don’t get too comfortable. The winds will pick up again, so stay alert and safe!
