A woman suffered severe burns from a hot water bottle explosion, urging others to check their appliances for safety.
This happened back in March 2024, and it was no joke. Karen, 52, ended up with severe burns and blisters. Doctors at the Leicester Royal Infirmary had to remove layers of her skin to prevent infection.
Now, she’s got a big scar on her thigh and some permanent skin discoloration. Karen wants everyone to know how dangerous these things can be. She said, “I’ve never known pain like it, it was horrendous.”
When she first saw her injury, blisters were already forming. It was shocking to see her skin melting away. She thought it wasn’t too bad at first, but it got worse quickly.
After the incident, Karen learned that hot water bottles should be replaced every year or two. She realized hers was probably old and unsafe.
