A new study shows young people prefer gaming and social media careers over traditional jobs
London: A recent study shows that Generation Z is moving away from traditional jobs. They’re looking for careers in gaming and social media instead. It’s pretty interesting, right?
The survey involved 2,000 young folks aged 18 to 29. It found that many want their work to match their passions. They also care a lot about their wellbeing.
About a third of them dream of being professional gamers. Meanwhile, over half would love to work in social media. It’s clear they value a good work-life balance.
In fact, 73% of them prioritize that balance. Plus, 55% consider a company’s environmental impact when job hunting. They really want to work for companies that care about the planet.
Many young people are ditching “office jobs” for ones with a positive work culture. A significant number also want strong mental health support at work. Diversity and inclusion matter to them too.
When it comes to hobbies, social media tops the list, followed closely by travel and hanging out with friends. A quarter of them think gaming is the best way to unwind.
Southeastern Rail commissioned this research to see how young people’s aspirations align with careers in rail. They’re trying to attract this new generation.
With an average salary of £28,366 for under-30s and perks like free travel, it could be a great option. Plus, they’re looking for skills in gaming and social media for various roles.
Steve Foster from Southeastern said they’re working hard to change perceptions about rail jobs. They want to show that rail offers exciting, digital, and green career paths.
He emphasized that it’s not about having rail experience. It’s about whether you can help move people. If you can, they want to hear from you!
This year marks 200 years of modern railways, and they’re evolving quickly. Rail is the greenest way to travel, and there’s a lot of investment going into making it even better.
